Nkeiruka Ifeonu wins Product Design Innovator of the Year for driving scalable innovative design across African digital technology.

Nkeiruka Ifeonu was named Product Design Innovator of the Year at the 2023 Titans of Tech Awards in a landmark celebration of innovation and impact in Africa’s digital space. The 19th edition of the prestigious ceremony, often referred to as Nigeria’s “Tech Industry Grammy,” was held in Lagos and chaired by former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro. The award recognized Nkeiruka’s transformative work in healthcare and retail technology, particularly her user-driven, inclusive design strategies powering high-growth startups across the continent.

Nkeiruka’s design innovations have significantly shaped two trailblazing startups, OneHealthNG, a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded healthtech company, and Jump’n’Pass, a Techstars-backed self-checkout and retail automation platform. In both roles, she has led the charge in building solutions that scale, combining deep user insight with elegant functionality.

At OneHealthNG, Nkeiruka redesigned Onewellness, a cloud-based patient management and wellness platform. The app features standout services such as “Talk to a Doctor,” “Ask a Pharmacist,” and “Check Your Vitals,” allowing patients to interact with medical professionals, track health metrics, and access prescriptions, all virtually. She also designed a responsive, intuitive dashboard for backend users, enabling healthcare providers to manage appointments, view health records, track metrics like blood pressure and glucose levels, and monitor patient progress through a seamless interface.

In addition to her healthcare contributions, Nkeiruka made significant strides in e-commerce innovation through her work at Jump’n’Pass. She led the redesign of the mobile app, resulting in a notable increase in user acquisition. Nkeiruka also created a more intuitive self-checkout and barcode flow experience for in-person shoppers, streamlining the retail process for both users and merchants.

One of her most impactful innovations was the design of a shoplifting detector system, now adopted by 25 supermarkets and over 500 supermarket chains across Africa including Just rite, Shop Rite & Blenco. This system detects and logs suspected theft incidents directly on the Jump’n’Pass app dashboard. By capturing key shopper data at the point of incident, the tool supports theft mitigation and real-time intervention for partner stores. According to company data, the system has already contributed to a 10% reduction in retail losses across its partner network.

Founded by Don Pedro Aganbi, the Titans of Tech Awards celebrate innovators accelerating digital transformation in Nigeria and beyond. Nkeiruka’s win signals a growing recognition of product design as a vital force in solving complex, continent-wide challenges.

As she continues to lead with a design philosophy rooted in user empathy, accessibility, and innovation, Nkeiruka Ifeonu stands out not only as a remarkably skilled product designer but as a builder of systems that uplift communities and drive real change in Africa’s evolving tech ecosystem.
